asemic imagery

i was making drawings for a book project at a workshop at MoMA when someone admired them and told me that what i was doing was asemic writing.

wikipedia says that the word asemic means "having no specific semantic content". and that "with the nonspecificity of asemic writing there comes a vacuum of meaning which is left for the reader to fill in and interpret. all of this is similar to the way one would deduce meaning from an abstract work of art."

i found it interesting that there was a name for the sort of abstraction i had been doing and, upon further research, found lots of inspiration online.
